twocalls restart – June, the 2nd
On Thursday, June the 2nd, at 3 PM, inside the Nuovo Spazio di Casso, Two Calls for Vajont, the International Contemporary Art Contest that Dolomiti Contemporanee launched in June 2014, was reintroduced.
A few months after the proclamation of the Contest’s results, with the selection of the winners, the project, thus, begins again.
We’d like to remind that the Contest is going to lead to the realization of two pieces of public art, which are going to be installed on two locations that are symbols of the tragedy of October the 9th 1963: the Vajont Dam and the southern façade of the former elementary school of Casso, transformed into the Nuovo Spazio di Casso in 2012, handled by Dolomiti Contemporanee.
The Contest’s winning projects are 90° CW by Andrea Nacciarritti, for A Call for a Line, and remrite/rewrite by Dimitri Giannina, for A Call for a Wall.
The International Jury which pinpointed them’s members are: Gianluca D’Incà Levis, curator of Dolomiti Contemporanee, Marc Augé, anthropologist, Alfredo Jaar, artist, Cristiana Collu, director of the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery of Rome, Franziska Nori, director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Maria Centonze, curator of the Merz Foundation of Turin, Pier Luigi Basso Fossali, semiology professor at theUniversité Lumière Lyon 2, Marcella Morandini, Segretary general of the Dolomiti UNESCO Foundation.
On Thursday, May the 2nd, we therefore took stock of the Contest’s state, and of the work phases that are to come, which will lead to the opening of new “construction sites”.
We then proceeded to the award ceremony for the four artists selected for the Special DC/Acqua Dolomia Prize, that is so say Monica Biancardi with Ritratti and Daniela Di Maro with Riflessione estatica, joint first-place holders for the Special Prize Wall, as well as the couple Mahatsanga Le Dantec/Micol Grazioli, winners of the Special Prize Line with Tra le linee.
We’d like to remind that the Special DC/Acqua Dolomia Prize consists of 2000 euros, made available by our main partner Acqua Dolomia, which will be shared among the winners.
The other two main partners of the Contest are Enel, current owner of the Vajont Dam, and Neonlauro, a business specialized in neon technology, thanks to which it will be possible to realize the artwork on the Spazio di Casso‘s façade.
Twocalls is a project sponsored and supported by the Ministery for the Environment, Dolomiti UNESCO Foundation, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region,Veneto Region, Vajont Foundation, Pordenone Province, Udine Province, Belluno Province, National Council of the Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Restorers, Erto e Casso Municipality, Claut Municipality, Cimolais Municipality, Vajont Municipality, Longarone Municipality, Belluno Municipality, Bim Piave Union, Belluno Dolomiti Industrial Association, Montagna Leader.

June the 3rd 2016
Why did we say #twocalls restart?
We never really stopped, after all.
We’ve explained that, yesterday.
The project goes on, we’re moving towards further phases, many.
Carrying on with the projects we’ve set out to do, and set up many more, we’ve always said.
twocalls isn’t about realizing two – excellent – projects.
We’ve never thought or spoke in terms of exclusive selectivity, of a bottleneck.
We’re all about opening, not closing.
That is why there are five winners, and many, not just two, artworks have been shown, yesterday.
That is why we’re betting on the realization of at least ten more of the finalist projects, in the next few years, if we’re going to stay in casso, where we do want to stay.
The artists, (daniela, dimitri, simone) have talked of real things: serious business. They’ve spoken of ideas and presence and relations, not of aesthetic connections, prizes, potlucks, this, or that.
Someone didn’t understand something, yesterday? We’ve explained, with patience.
Somebody compliments and, at the same time, states disappointment?
Wake up, decide, for Heaven’s sake. At our age, too.
We know where we stand: those who speak need to have a desire to know who we are: otherwise, don’t say anything at all.
We’re read these words, a few days ago (death to title-makers, but be aware of own words and presence), on a little newspaper: we’ve made tragedy into a show. Opulent practices of self-chargin.
But, onward, there’s no time for things like those, we’ve been immediately upfront, like usual, in the face of anything.
Onward, indeed.
And updates on our active hubs will come: those already clearly defined, and those to come: to come, yes, that is very clear.
