archivial print, 80×110 cm, 2014

They aren’t photographic portraits, in fact, but a reflection on the interaction between the space of the landscape and the human, whom marks this landscape through the apposition of sings and traces, acting it.
In the photographs, printed on medium format (110×80 cm), the path becomes often barely recognizable, only deducible.
It’s not about representing a physical itinerary, but abstracting it, to some extent, visually visually amplifying the meaning of these minimal of the anthropic landscape. Closed spaces, which are taken away from the open landscape, and fixed in a dimension of augmented iconicity.
The images have been captured at night, with the help of a powerful artificial lighting structure, to create a reduced field of action, and of attention, to dig them out of the silent and desert darkness of the environment, in the moment in which it isn’t being used.
The human, responsible of the (minimal) transformations of these isolated remnants of landscape, is absent from the snapshots, or rather, it is present in absence: the signs placed on the itineraries evoke it. Horizontal and vertical itineraries alike, by traces or ropes, paths and passages, places of the human, made and modified by the human, along its path and voyage, and from which the human itself is expunged, leaving itself behind, on a trail.
