Ever since his first performances of the 70s, Kovanda pushes forward disruptive actions, with the aim of challenging common social norms in a subtle way, without bringing too much attention on himself (a necessary approach, especially during the communist regime in his country of birth, then then-called Czechoslovakia). His work involves the employement of common materials, paired with a misleading and ironic disposition. In the piece displayed in the exhibit, the artist operates on everyday objects, assembling them together with the aim of shining a light on them, as well as on daily situations and spaces. The tacit purpose, which gradually transpires in the artwork, is that of calling the spectator to action, as an effective participant in the world, regardless of the type and value of the place where they currently find themselves.
