Hanging in the balance is the first exhibit held by the dolomiti contemporanee at the new venue of casso, the ex-elementary school of the town, re-opened after nearly 50 years after Vajont Tragedy. The venue re-opens with a new concept that looks forward. Contemporary art is a vital and active option, opposite to the inertia that sometimes blocks places marked by tragedy.
The new venue of casso (anf the town itself) hangs in the balance for many reasons. First of all for the morphologic and historical features of this unique location. The small town of casso, perched on an inclined slope, in unstable equilibrium, suspendend between a past marked by the terrible event of 1963 and a future yet to be imagined.
The town of casso stands in the border between the veneto and the friuli venezia giulia regions. It’s in the province of pordenone (friuli venezia giulia), but at the same time in the diocese of Longarone (Veneto).
The re-opening of this building through contemporary art is an opportunity to talk about something new and vital for this place. It’s an opportunity to reflect and act on this place, for this place.
Dolomiti contemporanee settles permanently in this place with the intention of creating a center for contemporary mountain culture, building a new identity fot it.
