“Upokeimenon” in Trieste

Upokeimenon (underwater)
is an exhibition divided into two location. The first and bigger one is at the New Venue of Casso and the second one is at the Civic Aquarium of Trieste. The second location for this exhibition is part of the Next Off programme and links Upokeimenon to the european exhibition of science and research Trieste Next.
Through the artistic work of Daniela Di Maro and Dimitri Giannina, many elements, proper of the mountain culture of the Dolomites, get in touch with the maritime culture of the city.

Saturday 28 september, at 5.00 pm, the exhibition was presented to the public outside the Aquarium (Molo Pescheria 2 – 34123 Trieste). Then the performance H2-ON by Dimitri Giannina was held. The performance was inspired by the story of Marco the Penguin. An installation will remain in place in the Aquarium during the following weeks.

Daniela Di Maro’s work is located at the first floor of th Aquarium, in the reptiles section.
Her artwork, Principio di Sospensione part 2, is partly a video and partly an installation, and it’s strictly connected to the artwork displayed in Casso. In the video the artist tells us a story that integrates and extends the fragment exhibited in Casso. In the Aquarium time seems to be stopped, but, thanks to the artists presence the memory of the creatures living here come back to life, re-activating this place.
