8 drawings, mixed media on paper, variable sizes, 2011

Pancini proposes a graphic/pictorial tale set in a naturalistic and mountainous environment, in which she depicts an acclivity. The artwork is set up around and over a corner, in an incoherent manner; this way, it gives up part of its narrative logic, while the value of it as an installation is increased.
A passage from the text by Pierluigi Fossali featured on semioticaviva:
[…] In Cristina Pancini’s drawings, the frames seem to signify the cinematic phases of a unitary transformation of the identity: a “too human Frankenstein” who recovers himself only collecting temporal pieces wherein the relationships between himself and the things around him change. The most convoluted phase is the one that appears both mature and embryonic: a body in swaddling bands which hauls around a whole flat. To be the things you posses, hidden in the folds of yourself, without knowing if they have the function of dimming the self or rather of expressing it. It is an over-inhabited body, memory of many “I”s assigned in time, but of many relocated alterities as well. However, climbing up the trunk and towards the upper section of the figure through the series of this canvas, separated and broken down in their order, one tends to conquer an opposing plane of relations, one defined by precise contact isolated from everyone else, one which can restore a meaning to the donation. To illustrate again the brushing, the “pecking”, the enhancing selection, one has to go through practical and splitting actions: it is imperative to untangle, to once again find the distances. This way, in a pictorial spirit that is close to magical realism, Cristina Pancini’s drawings tell us about an ascent that gives back its dignity to the gift through a distance that is ultimately similar to the one required by the aesthetic link.
