Four Military Geographic Institute maps, which represent some well-known dolomitic regions, with incredible mountains and ranges, with powerful names, must of mountaineering. The territory of Auronzo di Cadore, la Croda Rossa, Cencenighe Agordino, San Martino di Castrozza.
Menchini enters this respresented territory (inner-inner), and superimposes to the rigid markings of the cartography his own organic graphic markings: the level lines come to life, and it’s as if the landscape, schematically represented by a diagram, found its vital energy once again, through the free graphic action, which is a seed. The indian ink explodes: leaves, flowers, shoots, and protrusions, create new powerful massifs, which on the edge of the paper, or in the middle of it, go together with the static, geologic, ones, putting into motion their representation. The second, horizontal plane of the markings, superimposed to the first, slides on it, and shifts outside, and the parallelism moves the space, it opens it.
