Taking more than a home to dry,
oil on canvas, 83×63 cm, 2014
Neighbour,
wax, 15x10x10 cm, 2014
The reflections contained in Enaj Gala’s painting are linked to his analysis, and impressions,on the dramatic current history of Bosnia-Erzegovina and the countries of the former Jugoslavia. The artist has worked, more than once, in this region, harrassed by awful political and enthnic conflicts in the past few years. Numerous symbolic and metaphorical elements make up the work. The body of the half-submerged great man attempts the fusion with the smaller creature: this is the wish of the artist, whom hopes for the conflicts to end, and for the man to find the capacity for communion. Maybe the man (men) is thus destined to re-emerge. Some punctual elements, like the small fishing floats, and a ball that could be a lifebelt, refer exactly to this: get a hold of the human root again. An it will definitely be an authentic will to re-emerge, rather than the simble building of the houses, as the title of the work hints, to make the human able to go back to living in peace, in its environment.
