Veronica De Giovanelli/Litogènesi
Litogènesi,
frottage made of rocks from Casso, graphite on Repap mineral paper, 102 x 72 cm, 2015.
Litogènesi (i.e. lithogenesis) is a series of collages created from the assembling of frottages of various surfaces of the Erto and Casso area, realized on Repap mineral paper, whose composition includes calcium carbonate (80%) and natural resins (20%). Lithogenesis can be defined as the entirety of the processes, both genetic and evolutive, from which the different kinds of rocks are made in nature. in the Dolomites the transformation of the rock sediments is caused by remnants of organisms which, to survive the sinking of the tectonic plates have created these spectacular peaks. In their attempt to survive, these organisms have been able to take advantage of an apparently adverse situation. Veronica De Giovanelli’s images call to mind sea creatures, sediments, stratifications, fossils, rocks, and are an omage to these mountains and these lands that today should be, most of all, viewed as places of genesis.
